GIFT LOOKS FOR "CARING" CITIZEN
A caring person, one who is dedicated to community service and is a positive role model, will be awarded the GIFT Foundation’s (Geneseo Is For Tomorrow) annual Community Caring Award.
“We’re looking for a person who has an extraordinary commitment to pubic service and social responsibility,” says Paul Lindsey, GIFT President. Lindsey goes on to explain that GIFT is seeking an individual that has demonstrated selflessness, exhibited a long-term commitment to service and the betterment of society, and who has had a significant impact on the lives of others in Geneseo.
“We particularly look for those whose efforts will last beyond their lifetime,” he says.
The winner of this year’s award will be announced at the groups Fall Celebration on October 2. Those nominated last year will continue to be considered. “With the award comes a $500 grant, donated by one of GIFT’s corporate sponsors, that the Community Caring Award winner can donate to the Geneseo non-profit organization of their choice,” says Brett Lohman,
past president of The GIFT Foundation.
Nomination forms can be found on the GIFT website, geneseogift.org, by calling 944-GIFT. Those previously nominate will remain in consideration. Nominating forms must be received by no later than August 31, 2008.
Last year’s winner was the late Brad Schoon, a Geneseo High School teacher who had a positive impact on hundreds of students who passed through his classroom. Schoon was lost to Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He donated the $500 grant he received to the Geneseo chapter of Rebuilding Together.
