GROWTH INC. SETS UP ORGANIZATION FUND WITH GIFT FOUNDATION
The board of directors of Growth Inc. recently established an Organization Fund with the Geneseo Is For Tomorrow Foundation (GIFT). Growth leaders want to build an endowment that will help finance the operation of the 150-student day care center. “This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time,” says Glenda Verdick, Growth board member, “but we knew that the expense of doing so made it prohibitive.”
Verdick says that when she heard about the GIFT Foundation she thought it might be the answer to their dilemma. She asked if GIFT would come to a Growth board meeting and tell the directors how GIFT works and how GIFT could help them set up an endowment.
“We made our presentation to the Growth board, and answered their questions,” says Katie Andrios, GIFT board chair. “What they were looking for is exactly what GIFT is all about.”
“The folks at GIFT were very helpful,” says Growth Director Shelley Gorman. “They had the paperwork prepared and all we had to do is sign on the line.”
Gorman notes that now that the fund is established Growth, Inc. will work to add money to it. “We will have fund raisers,” she says. “We are hoping that citizens will remember Growth Inc. when they are doing their estate planning.” She also points out that Growth, Inc. is a non profit organization, so any gifts are tax deductible.
Andrios said that GIFT was pleased to be able to help Growth, Inc. establish this Organization Fund and offers to help similar groups to do the same. “For any charitable group who has shied away from establishing an endowment because of the hassle, the expense, or just not understanding how to get this task completed, GIFT can offer a wonderful service. With little more than signing the paper work the fund is established and its earnings then support the group’s good works.”
