KUHNS' ESTABLISH "OVER-COMERS" SCHOLARSHIP

At The GIFT Foundations annual Celebration in early October, Bob and Barb Kuhns
announced that they had established an annual scholarship for students who had
overcome some sort of difficulty that might hinder them from furthering their education.

“Both Barb and I had scholarship assistance during college that was very helpful,”
explained Mr. Kuhns. “Barb came from a large family with little disposable income.”
Kuhns went on to explain that his father, a teacher, became permanently disabled from an
auto accident when Bob was in high school and his older brother was starting college.

“Our desire is to encourage a student who has a strong work ethic and has overcome
some obstacle in his or her life,” says Mrs. Kuhns. “We would like to think of it as the
‘Over-comer’s’ Scholarship.” She told how she and her husband chose guidelines for
receiving the scholarship and GIFT provided a number of possibilities. “We reviewed the
applications but we left the difficult decision of picking the winner to the GIFT
Foundation Board.”

As time passes the GIFT Board will continue to follow the scholarship guidelines
established by Mr. and Mrs. Kuhns. “When they’re no longer able to participate in the
process they are assured that their wishes will be followed and their generosity and
support of the community will be appropriately noted every year,” says Paul Lindsey,
President of The GIFT Foundation.

Mr. and Mrs. Kuhns are also the newest members of The GIFT Foundation’s Legacy
Society having included the Foundation in their estate.

At the annual GIFT Foundation Celebration Barb and Bob Kuhns
announce the establishment of a scholarship to help students
with hardships further their education. Mrs. Kuhns said that she
liked the idea of helping a student who has been dealt challenging
circumstance, met them head-on, and is moving forward in a
situation that could easily drag one down. “The “over-comer” is
the essence of what we wanted to find and help,” she said.
